What Could Be Behind The Little Miss Meme Trend According To Upturn Agency’s CEO Nick Naoufal

We as a society can agree that we have come a long way with memes since the inception of social media. So why are people losing their minds over the new ‘Little Miss’ trend?

The meme is of non-descript characters based on the children’s book ‘Mr.Men’ that was later adapted by BBC TV as a series. Now, as people speculate why it’s coming back, it seems as if ‘Mr.Men’ has come back to reclaim a space in the evolving digital era. We often see this happen in the meme economy, as nostalgia is a huge catalyst for long-term and short-term trends on social medial. Lots of people remember these characters from their youth, so when you see one of them again years later, it’s going to be more likely that you’d share it to your similarly aged friends and share a laugh or memory.

It is becoming more and more likely that companies that know about this powerful tool of nostalgia and memes about their brand + characters will begin to use it in digital monetization strategies, as we saw the digital collectible market begin to take off a few years ago.

Nick Naoufal, CEO of Upturn Agency helped follow this trail of monetizing a meme for business purposes. The sixteen-year-old entrepreneur owns a marketing & public relations company that connects digital product creators to their audience using celebrities and social media. Upturn Agency gives exposure to internet assets such as memes, creative concepts, and communities that can be monetized. The Canadian based company has brought attention to some digital assets by involving notable names like Logan Paul, Kim Kardashian, Snoop Dogg, Kevin Hart and many more.

Weimer: What trends are you noticing with the ‘Little Miss’ meme characters going around on social media? Is it a great marketing strategy for something else or are we just tapping back into 2012 memes again?

Naoufal: The ‘Little Miss’ meme characters going around are another strategically planned & executed marketing strategy. When looking at their traditional marketing strategy, they have based characters from celebrities in the past to keep the book characters relevant. This helps sell their physical products year over year.

We may not be able to guarantee the official company is adding the photos to various digital asset platforms. However, with over 900 memes in the most popular marketplace, we do believe it’s the official ‘Mr.Men’ & ‘Little Miss’. They may be adding a new element by creating digital assets.

With every person who shares, likes, reposts, etc… on social media it could be increasing the digital products value on a different platform. If you are in the business of creating digital products, you may want to watch for this space.

Jackson Weimer: You own a successful full-service internet marketing & PR agency, but you are only 16 years old. Do you believe your age allows you to understand what’s happening between social media and the other areas of the internet?

Nick Naoufal: I do believe my age allows me to understand what’s happening on social media. Those my age recognize social media as a key tool for connecting and maintaining relationships, being creative, and learning more about the world.

Weimer: Can you see more companies turning static photos into digital products of various nature?

Naoufal: I could 100% see more companies turning static photos into digital products as it’s already been done & will continue to be done.
